The Sherry Lynn Bangsund Leadership
and Courage Scholarship

The Sherry Lynn Bangsund Leadership and Courage Scholarship Award is being established to honor the memory of Sherry Lynn Bangsund who passed away on February 11th, 2011 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. The name of this scholarship includes “courage” for a reason. Sherry displayed tremendous courage and determination in her fight against cancer. She never gave in, she never gave up, she never was afraid. Sherry’s courage inspired all that knew her to never give up, face adversity straight on and always lead others when they doubt.

This scholarship was established February 11th, 2011 and is funded by Insurance Claims Management. The purpose of the Scholarship is to recognize and reward those individuals who are pursuing continuing education that demonstrate the qualities and ideals Sherry Lynn Bangsund lived her life by.

Regulations:
  1. Two Scholarships will be awarded annually.
  2. The Scholarships will be awarded to the candidate whom the Selection Committee agrees best represent the ideals and values of the memorial.
  3. The Scholarships are tenable by students who are United State citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
  4. The basis of selection will be by essay from the applicant and letters of recommendation from a teacher or employer attesting to the individual’s character, leadership and acts of service
  5. The Scholarships will be awarded by the Insurance Claim Management upon the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising of three members selected by the ICM Senior Leadership Team
  6. The Scholarships will be paid in one installment each.
  7. Insurance Claim Management is not obliged to make an award if in any year there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
  8. Applications close the 11th of February of the award year. The exception to this is the initial award.
  9. Current recipients applying for a second year of funding will be required to submit a letter requesting continuation by the closing date.
Qualifications:
  1. An employee of Insurance Claims Management.
  2. A relative of an Insurance Claim Management employee.
    1. A relative is defined as an employee’s spouse, child, grandchild and niece or nephew.
  3. The recipient must be pursuing continuing education other than High School.
  4. The recipient must submit an essay demonstrating activities or studies that they have performed that embody leadership, civic responsibility and giving to help their fellow man.
  5. Include at least two letters of character and accomplishment from a teacher, clergy, employer or relative that attest to their character and good deeds
  6. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)
  7. School transcript (official or unofficial) with this application
  8. Return the completed application and required documentation by mail, fax or E-mail postmarked no later than May 15, 2011, to be considered for this award.

Selection Process:
  • Application by essay is made to the Sherry Lynn Bangsund Leadership and Courage Scholarship selection committee
  • A selection committee assesses the applications
  • The Scholarships are awarded by the President of ICM or the Presidents designee.

**Recipients of the Sherry Lynn Bangsund Scholarship may have the opportunity of summer work experience with Insurance Claim Management.
