Setting the Standard
Using new IICRC S500 standards, approved by the American National Standards Institute
in 2006, it became possible for trained practitioners to execute “The Science of
Drying” to get a predictable return to pre-loss conditions as quickly as possible.
These standards specify how to use physical water removal, evaporation, dehumidification
and temperature control to reduce unnecessary demolition, expensive replacement
of costly structural materials, and collateral damage. But, while the science was
there, we knew the change wouldn’t just happen. Claims had to be assigned only to
the most capable IICRC water damage restoration certified contractors that have
the latest technology and equipment. And contractors wouldn’t just give up their
reconstruction income. They had to be pre-qualified and then actively managed on
a daily basis by claims representatives certified in “The Science of Drying.” We
also needed a process and system that would support remote claims management to
IICRC standards on every claim.
So we took a blank piece of paper and developed a proactive solution that would
win with clients, policyholders and contractors… and would be truly revolutionary.
